BMB-203: Biological Membrane and Lipid Metabolism
(BMB-203)

BMB-203 is designed to provide an understanding of the molecular and cellular features of biological membranes and functions. Lipid metabolism and their biological significance. Diseases associated with lipid metabolism.  This is a serious undertaking and will require dedicated, focused class attendance and concentration, along with diligent study of course materials. Upon successful completion, you should be able to understand:

Structure and Membrane transport, digestion, absorption, mobilization, and transport of fatty acids. Utilization and storage of energy in lipid form, lipoprotein metabolism, metabolic pathways of fatty acids and regulations, pathways of metabolism of special Lipids such as phospholipids, cholesterol, sphingolipids, prostaglandins, thromboxanes. Clinical correlations: obesity, respiratory distress syndrome, atherosclerosis, lipid storage dieses and many more.
